When swelling is harder to control, selected patients may need greater containment.

For lymphoedema specialists managing patients who continue to swell, change shape or struggle to maintain control despite compression.

Do you have that sinking feeling?

How often do you manage someone with lymphoedema, but struggle to achieve lasting progress?

Lymphoedema is more common in the UK than people think, while maintaining control of oedema can be a challenge.

450,000 people of all ages are estimated to live with lymphoedema in the UK [1]

More than 1 in 4 patients attending three UK specialist lymphoedema services had swelling assessed by their healthcare professional as poorly controlled.[2]

What makes swelling harder to control?

Alongside diagnosis and stage, consider what the limb is doing.

image_contain_shape_example.png

Shape

Changing profile, folds or a limb shape that is difficult to maintain.

image_contain_texture_example.png

Texture

Firm, fibrotic or indurated tissue.

Swelling

Continues to swell or loses a reduction already achieved.

When current compression is not maintaining control

Bandaging remains an effective, adaptable intervention. Standard compression garments and adjustable wraps successfully manage many patients. A smaller group may continue to swell, change shape or return to more intensive treatment.

What happens if nothing changes?

The next step is not always more compression, it can be the need for more containment.

High containment for harder-to-contain limbs

COMPREFLEX® Contain is a adjustable compression option for selected patients who require greater containment when dealing with lymphoedema.

High-containment foam

Greater resistance to stretch to support containment.

Tailored shape

Accommodates oedematous limbs with less defined calf muscles.

Cushioning

Padding designed to support comfort and fit.

  • Adjustable, graduated, inelastic compression: 20–50 mmHg.
  • Calf, knee and thigh options.
  • 2x more containment compared with standard inelastic compression wraps*

*Based on internal mechanical testing of laminate resistance to stretch. This is not a comparison of compression level or clinical outcome.[4]
